Homebrew Lab is a distillery and specializes in handcrafted gin and rum. We also brew small-batch specialized beer. We are situated in the heart of Secunda, at Lake Umuzi Waterfront. All our products are available in our trendy “lab-themed” tasting room. The tasting room offers a unique tasting experience to all our valued customers. We offer interactive pairings and tastings, “make your own gin”, parties and events and a whole lot more. Our clients can also relax and sip on unique cocktails, made from our own handcrafted alcohol, right on the edge of the waterfront.

OUR PRODUCTS

HANDCRAFTED GIN

ALPHA LONDON DRY GIN

The first and most significant type of gin. The Alpha London dry gin stays true to tradition by combining the iconic Juniper berries with notes of Coriander, Lavender, Orange peel and Geranium. This gin is crisp, pure and pleasantly refreshing. An explosion of botanical flavours linger on the tongue long after the sip was taken. This gin is enjoyed with good quality Indian tonic or soda water.

AMBER ENERGY

Delicate herbal aromas with subtle notes of sweet orange, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon and star anise. This inimitable combination of botanicals fuse together in harmony to deliver an energising sensory experience. This style of gin creates a warm and pleasant mouthfeel and tantalises the tongue’s taste buds. This gin is enjoyed with good quality Indian tonic or soda water. The smoothness of the well-balanced botanicals makes it also possible to enjoy the gin neat on the rocks.

FLORAL FUSION

Intricate floral aromas with subtle notes of Hibiscus and Elderflower. This aromatic gin infusion is delicate on the nose but takes you on a floral sensory journey. Floral fusion has a perceived sweetness with a lasting flavour teasing every taste bud, ending with a delicate dryness, unique to this gin style. This gin is enjoyed with good quality Indian tonic or soda water.

PURPLE-LIME ALCHEMY

Exquisite herbal aromas with vibrant and complex notes of lavender, lime and ginger. This combination creates the most uplifting and refreshing gin experience yet. Lavender is prominent on the nose with subtle hints of citrus and ginger as the undertone. This style of gin is complex of nature and lingers on the tongue with a refreshing and enjoyable aftertaste. This gin is enjoyed with good quality Indian tonic or soda water.

HANDCRAFTED RUM

SYNERGY DESSERT RUM

The nose is a harmonious blend of coffee, vanilla and caramel. The taste is complex and balanced with notes of molasses, coffee, oak and a subtle hint of vanilla. American oak was used during the ageing process and adds a distinctive yet delicate undertone. The finish lingers on the tongue long after the sip was taken. This style of rum should be enjoyed neat on the rocks.

MOLECULE SPICED RUM

Complex flavours of cinnamon, star anise, pepper, nutmeg, ginger and vanilla pods. This oak-aged rum takes you on a sensory journey through sweet and spicy flavours. The finish is complex with layers of spice alongside distinctive notes of crème brûlee and vanilla. This rum is made from the finest cane sugar and spices. This style of rum should be enjoyed neat on the rocks.

HANDCRAFTED SPECIALIZED BEER

X-RAY

X-Ray is an Amber Ale. Our favourite hop-forward amber ale recipe. The beer delivers a delicious pale ale flavour and copper-red colour. The hops were craft-fully selected not to be overly bitter with passion fruit, red berries and sweet fruits being some of the predominant flavours.

DARK MATTER

Dark Matter is a Sweet Stout. This beer seems sweet, but it isn’t, and therefore it can be enjoyed by the pint! A deep dark black colour with a creamy white head, full-bodied, slightly roasty ale that can suggest coffee-and-cream, or sweetened espresso, or dark chocolate.

CHAIN REACTION

Chain Reaction is a Cream Ale. Easy-drinking, approachable, malt-oriented craft beer. Pale colour similar to the grasslands the Highveld is known for. Well-balanced and clean, slightly malty and just enough hop bitterness to keep it interesting. A refreshing pint without aggressive flavours.

ATOMIC ALE

Atomic Ale is a Belgian Ale. The pale malt and hops play a larger role than might be otherwise expected. A moderate-strength golden ale, pale to deep gold with superb clarity that has a subtle fruity-spicy Belgian yeast complexity, slightly malty-sweet flavour, and dry finish.

TRIPLE-BOND

Triple Bond is a Belgian Triple. A pale, somewhat spicy, dry, strong Trappist ale with a pleasant rounded malt flavour and firm bitterness. Quite aromatic, with spicy, fruity, and light alcohol notes combining with the supportive clean malt character to produce a surprisingly drinkable beverage considering the high alcohol level.
