Lions rugby fanatics enjoyed two fun filled days with The Lions Super Rugby Squad! Fans gathered around their favorite players for photographs and autographs.
On Monday, 6 February and Tuesday, 7 February 2017 the Lions Super Rugby Squad visited Secunda where they enjoyed a practise session at the Sasol Club. Various school rugby teams joined in on the entertainment. A supporter also entertained the crowd with a Lions outfit – see Gallery for photos.
Dillion Smit also visited his primary school, Laerskool Goedehoop. Lake Umuzi supported him in arranging a signature session. Afterwards the boys enjoyed a ball kick session with him where they also gained some ball skills.
Eish!! was packed to the rafters on Monday afternoon after the signature session. Faf de Klerk showed interest in the Lake Umuzi Brewing Company and posed for a photo with the brewmaster.
A framed Lions-jersey was actioned and achieved the record price of R150 000. All the signatures of this year’s Super rugby team players featured on the jersey. The jersey was auctioned for the benefit of the u/18 South African sevens rugby tour team. The team will participate in the Dallas International under/19 sevens tournament in July.
Johan Rosslee from Lake Umuzi thanked everyone who assisted with bringing this Super 12 rugby squad to Secunda. According to Johan, the team was very impressed with the successful week and with the residents that they consider a warming-up match in Secunda.
