The Kosmos 3 in 1 2020, was the last major event before the pandemic hit our South African borders. After missing only 1 year, the Kijima Kosmos 3 in 1 came back in full swing on 5 March 2022.
At 6 am 1497 runners started the 42.2km with a cool wind in the air. It appeared as though it might start to rain at any moment. But by 8 am the sun was out and as promised a sunny, highveld day was in the making.
By 8h30 the first male, Given Baloyi came in at 2:30:31, with Jetro Brown Sithole a whopping 6 minutes later. The local running legend, Helena Joubert came in at 3:07:30, making her the first female to finish.
By mid-day, the runners were anticipating a tough 21.1km. Nonetheless, 1462 runners were brave enough to face the half-marathon. Derrick Masango was the first over the finish line with a time of 1:11:16. Coming in at 1:19:41 was Clemond Komane who was 4th overall but first in the Male Junior category, leaving some of the seniors in the dust.
The 10km loads of first-time runners participating. Proconics and Ricky B and others used this run as a fun team-building exercise and the colleagues cheered one another on during the race, it was a sight to behold – well done guys!
The first runner in was Kabelo Malemu at 30:30 and on his heels was Moses Mahlangu coming in at 30:44. In total 1794 runners ran and finished the 10km.
The highlight of every Kosmos 3 in 1 is the waterpoints and once again they were outstanding, keeping the runners hydrated and having a variety of nutritional snacks available. Van Schalkwyk – Le Roux Venter incorporated had ice cloths available where runners could wipe their faces with an ice-cold cloth and gain strength for the next stretch of the run.
Once again, another successful Kosmos 3 in 1 and, we look forward to the 30th edition of the Kosmos 3 in 1 here at Lake Umuzi.
Umuzi Lodge and The Merchant at Lake Umuzi are already fully booked with a handful of rooms left at InnGreen @ Lake Umuzi. There are still some campsites available at Lake Umuzi Kamp Oase but book early to reserve the best spots.
See you again next year!
