The past week (4-7 February 2018) Lake Umuzi hosted the Lions Rugby Co for a training camp.
They arrived on Sunday and enjoyed a private dinner and team meeting.
On Monday evening, the second annual exclusive Lions dinner took place at Boesies Restaurant, with entertainment by our fabulous local musicians, Dieter Uken & Billy Brandt. Fans and business owners bought tables for the evening which included the company of a player, giving fans the opportunity to socialise, and discuss all aspects of the game.
Two Lions Rugby jerseys were up for auction, The first: Elton Jantjies’ “Man of the Match” jersey was up for grabs. The jersey auctioned at an astonishing R40 000 to Marx Lindeque, that will be donated to Laërskool Trichardt Rugby Development.
The second: “Quarterfinal Super 18” jersey (auctioned as a fund raiser for the Lions Rugby Co). The winning bidder was Mr Daan Naude with a staggering amount of R47 750. Mr Naude donated a signed “Lions Flag” which raised an amount of R11 500. And without hesitation Mr Jaco Kriel, on behalf of the Lions Rugby Union, donated the money to Laerskool Trichardt.
On Tuesday after a thunderous rain storm, fans showed their support at the Sasol Recreational Club for a “Cat Fight” between the Xerox Lions and Emirates Lions. After the game the fans had the opportunity to meet the Lions, collect autographs and take photos with their favourite Hero’s.
