Things to do while attending Misty Waters Music Festival South Africa at Lake Umuzi Secunda

For those of you that does not know the set-up at Misty Waters, we’re going to delve deeper into Lake Umuzi Waterfront and everything it has to offer. The festival grounds where Misty Waters Music Festival takes place forms part of the larger development known as Lake Umuzi Waterfront.

Lake Umuzi, often referred to as “An Oasis amidst Industry” offers accommodation, restaurants, family entertainment, sports and recreation, and function, conference and wedding venues. You may think Lake Umuzi has it all, but there’s more to come.

The new expansion at Lake Umuzi offers an art gallery, craft beer brewery, gin distillery, Indian and Chinese cuisine, and a variety of other culinary experiences. There will also be unique retail outlets and offices for those who want to work while enjoying the good life. Lake Umuzi Waterfront is very centrally located with Secunda Mall, Sasol Synfuels Main Gate, Sasol Recreational Club, Curro Secunda being only 2 minutes away.

There simply is too much to elaborate on, therefore we will provide insight into the 12 activities we believe a music festival attendee could also be interested in. However, we will also list the other establishments found at Lake Umuzi at the end of the article.

1. Boeremall Market

Taking place from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, April 27th is the monthly Boere mall Market. This market takes place at Lake Umuzi next to Hennies and Rocky Waters Adventures Mini Golf. Shop for unique, hand-crafted items such as earrings, shoes, sweets and so much more. It is free entrance to the market and we encourage everyone to visit the market the morning of the 27th before the bands start at 11am at the Misty Waters festival grounds.

2. Blazing Guns Laser Tag

3. Carnival Square

Attend Misty Waters with your kids and never worry about them not being entertained. Let your kids roam free in the Biggest Jungle Gym in Africa. Carnival Square at Lake Umuzi provides a safe and enjoyable entertainment area where toddlers and pre-primary school children can live out all their adventures. At the same time, parents can enjoy the hospitality of the restaurants and entertainment at Lake Umuzi Waterfront in Secunda.

4. Eish!! South African Kitchen

Boasting a big deck with an even bigger flat screen TV’s, eish!! is the local hangout where you are guaranteed the tastiest breakfast to recharge you for a full day of musical festivities. Every Friday from 2pm they have their Beer Bell Hour, which means you buy one SAB draught and receive the second for free. This is definitely the spot where you want to pre-game before heading to Misty Waters Music Festival.

5. Evoke Café

Spoil yourself with delicious treats and pastries at this extremely pink café located at the new development at Lake Umuzi. With a flower swing and feature walls, this pink paradise is the ideal weekend photo opportunity. Order a craft gin, before you head over to the festival grounds for some less than pink rock and roll shows.

6. Justino’s Portuguese Restaurant

At Justino’s it is all about taste. Come and savour the delicious tastes of Portugal and Mozambique. They have weekly specials sure to make you salivate. Enjoy a cocktail and delicious plate of food on their lakeside deck.

7. Idwala Adventure Rock Climbing

What is a rock festival without some rock climbing? Located right next to the festival grounds you will find the only commercial indoor rock climbing facility in Mpumalanga. With over 14 top rope routes on up to 11-meter walls, 17 bouldering routes and a separate kid’s wall section, Idwala Adventures has all the excitement wrapped up in one fun filled space.

8. Lake Umuzi Brewing Company

The Lake Umuzi Brewing Company brews most of their beers to an English style, with the exception of the Weiss beer that is made to the original German Style. You can expect highly addictive, designer beer that may lead to many things illegal such as: having too much fun, being too clever, being too brave and reckless driving. Luckily the brewery is located within walking distance to all of Lake Umuzi accommodation and the camping grounds, therefore no driving is required.

9. Mvua Wellness Spa

Mvua Wellness Spa offers an array of spa treatments from massages and facials, to manicures, pedicures and waxes, at affordable rates. Their very special pedicure station overlooks the small Umuzi Lodge dam with water features that will create a tranquil atmosphere for you to enjoy while getting pampered. With a special bridge from Umuzi Lodge and The Merchant Hotel at Lake Umuzi, access to and from your hotel room or chalet will be effortless.

10. Rocky Waters Adventure Mini Golf

This 18-hole miniature golf course provides fun for the whole family. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Umuzi while challenging your friends and family to a round of putt-putt. They open at 9am on Saturdays, which is 2 hours before our first show. Enjoy a quick round of putt-putt before you head over to the festival grounds for Hollowbody kicking off our Saturday.

11. Upstairs! Sky Bar

Venture outside of the Misty Waters festival grounds and indulge in tasty cocktails at the highest bar in Secunda. With its colourful walls and Cuban flag bar, walking into Upstairs! will give you a sense of being on holiday somewhere in Southern America. Catch a tan on our deck overlooking the lake whilst sipping away on a margarita or gin-a-colada with your friends. The fiesta atmosphere won’t allow you to siesta, constant salsa, romantic and rhythmic songs will fill the space and your emotions.

12. Zebra’s Billiards Bar

Are you a pool playing fanatic and require your weekly fix? Zebra’s, located right next to InnGreen Hotel, offers two pool tables and two dart boards. Along with your usual bar activities, Zebra’s caters to the classy, whisky connoisseur while still offering the most affordable draught in town. They open at 2pm on Fridays, which gives you plenty of time to conquer a pool game or two before the first band performs at the Misty Waters festival ground (only a 5 minute walk from Zebra’s).

As you can see your weekend at Misty Waters Music Festival includes much more than mesmerising music and fantastical fire dancers. We encourage you to relish in all that Lake Umuzi has to offer while you’re attending Misty Waters.

    Looking forward to the festival. Is it recommended that one books a table at the various food places, or is it on a first come, first served basis.
